Origin & History
Bred down in size over centuries in Europe, originally as pets for nobility and later as pit ponies to haul coal carts underground, the Miniature Horse was refined into today's registered breed largely in the United States during the 20th century.
Appearance
Standing no taller than 34 to 38 inches depending on registry, a well-bred Miniature Horse keeps correct horse proportions rather than a stocky pony build, and comes in virtually every color and pattern.
Temperament
Friendly, curious, and eager to interact with people, Miniature Horses are popular as companion animals and are increasingly trained as guide animals for the visually impaired.
